According to the WHO, which is a Suspicious, a probable and a confirmed case of COVID-19?

This is highly important, a person does not necessarily need to be in a hospital to listen and for these definitions to apply, yourself at home can be screened or called if you suspect someone close to you is in one of these groups.

According to the world body:

A suspected case of Covid-19 coronavirus is:

a.- A patient with acute respiratory disease (fever and at least one sign / symptom of respiratory disease, for example, cough, shortness of breath), AND a history of travel or residence in a place that reports community transmission of Disease of COVID-19 during the 14 days prior to the onset of symptoms.

b.- A patient with an acute respiratory illness AND who has been in contact with a confirmed or probable COVID-19 case (see definition of contact) in the last 14 days before the onset of symptoms;

c.- A patient with severe acute respiratory disease (fever and at least one sign / symptom of respiratory disease, for example, cough, shortness of breath; AND requiring hospitalization) AND in the absence of an alternative diagnosis that fully explains the clinical presentation .

A Probable case of Covid-19 coronavirus is:

a.- A suspicious case for whom the tests for the COVID-19 virus are inconclusive.
(In this case, the result of the test reported by the laboratory is not conclusive).

b.- A suspicious case for whom the tests could not be carried out for any reason.

A Confirmed case of Covid-19 coronavirus is:

A person with laboratory confirmation of COVID-19 infection, regardless of clinical signs and symptoms.

Definition of contact:

A contact is a person who experienced any of the following exposures during the previous 2 days and 14 days.

After the onset of symptoms of a probable or confirmed case:

Face-to-face contact with a probable or confirmed case within 1 meter and for more than 15 minutes.
Direct physical contact with a probable or confirmed case.
Direct care for a patient with probable or confirmed COVID-19 disease without using appropriate personal protective equipment.
Other situations indicated by local risk assessments.

Note: for confirmed asymptomatic cases, the contact period is measured as the 2 days prior to the 14 days.
after the date the sample was taken that led to confirmation.
